Michaela is the Discipline of General Practice assessment coordinator of Medicine in Society Stream C students as well as a case-based learning tutor for second year students.
After spending 4 years in hospital practice, Michaela began work in general practice. She maintained sessional hospital work concurrently with general practice for a number of years and has also enjoyed working in the area of transfusion medicine and blood donor health at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, the hypertension unit at Greenslopes Private Hospital and in community child health.
Michaela's current involvement in general practice focusses on care of the elderly in the community, promoting healthy ageing and preventive medicine, residential aged care, chronic disease, palliative medicine and end of life care.
With research areas and interests in the value of mindfulness for patients and health professionals, Michaela's current projects include initiating opportunities for mindfulness programs to assist students and staff as well as working with UQ to develop a toolkit to enable peer observation of teaching partnerships.
