Mr Chalachew (Chale) Alemayehu is an Ethiopian GP studying for a PhD with the Discipline of General Practice.
Chale has recently completed his confirmation hearing and has passed strongly. He plans to use N-of-1 tests in individuals to test whether a locally produced version of a commonly used antihypertensive, has equivalent action to a much more expensive imported version.
N-of-1 tests allow a direct comparison of the two drugs to be made. If found to be equivalent, the confidence to take the cheaper medicine could well save many lives.
We all look forward to seeing this trial come to fruition.
Congratulations to Discipline of General Practice PhD Scholar, Dr Johanna Lynch, who has received an Australian Postgraduate Award.
Awarded to students of exceptional research promise, this scholarship will be of great support to Johanna as she undertakes her PhD project, 'Sense of safety: a new way to see mental health?'
